Long domain logon time in Windows XP Pro

Problem

A domain login on windows XP is taking an excessive amount of time when logging on, sometimes during "Applying computer settings"

Best Solution

Click on start, then click on run.
In the open field, type mmc
This should bring up the MS Management Console.
Go to FILE-ADD SNAP IN- Then choose GROUP POLICY OBJECT EDITOR. Click ADD then FINISH, then OK
In the Group Policy Object editor window, navigate to Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> System—>Logon, change "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" to ENABLED. (double click on the setting to change)

This can be fed to clients via a group policy from a Windows 2000 server by upgrading the standard policy template with the XP policy template. (If necessary)

Another Solution

This solved the problem for me one time, It could be worth a try also;

Click on start, then click on run.
In the open field, type cmd
This should bring up the command prompt. From here type the following:
ipconfig /flushdns
Now reboot the computer and you should have a much shorter login time.
